Mom's Tatted Doily

made by Cheryl Cummings

The pattern is from A New Twist on Tatting by Catherine Austin -- Oval
Doily pattern 5. (You can order the book from us. The price is $14.95 and includes lots of full color pictures and 50 patterns for edgings, doilies and other miscellaneous projects.) I used DMC Cebelia size 30, color number 3326. I made it as a surprise for my mother to grace a small table in her bedroom. She loved it!

I have always been fascinated with tatting. My grandmother taught me
crochet and embroidery, but she didn't know how to tat. I tried to
learn from a book, but could never master the "flip". I took a couple
of classes last fall from Jane Mitchell at Sharon's Quilt Depot, a shop in McKinney that has now closed -- and
have been obsessed ever since. This is my first large tatting project.

We have beginning and advanced shuttle tatting classes at the store to help
keep this "lost art" alive.

Note: Cheryl is the store "ordering queen." She has several tatting books and supplies in stock. Cebelia is always in stock in white, cream and a few colors, and other colors can be special-ordered as needed. We also stock Flora 20 weight, DMC Perle Cotton 8 and DMC 80 tatting cotton in a variety of solid and variegated colors. If you have some tatting needs you would like to ask about, email her at cheryl@fabricaffair.com.
